Paving & Patio Work in Belfast, Lisburn & Surrounding Areas

Most properties need an area of paving, or a specific patio area. Paving provides stability underfoot and just looks great, when done right. Most of us know where around our houses we want our paving or patio and we know our budget; we just need someone to do the work for us. Or perhaps you simply want your existing paving (Crazy Paving, Old Grey Flags, Weedy Small Block anyone?) ripped out and replaced with something decent. If this sounds like you then you’ve come to the right place.

Part of the team, and whose work you see in the images on the website, is Danny McDonald. With over 40 years building experience Danny’s approach to paving and patio work can be summed up in three words – Do It Right!

Other Elements

Edgings

Choose from kerb type blocks or simple setts. And remember, you don’t have to have edging blocks if your paving runs to a wall or to a lawn or raised border. However, they do look great as they provide a definite end to your paving.

Walls

We use Tobermore “Secura-Lite” and “Garden Stone” free standing walls and can build standard & retaining walls up to 3’ (90cm) in height. All walls include drainage behind to prevent run through from lawns etc.

Drainage

Channel drains (plastic or galvanised steel) work best where drainage is required. They are long lasting and, when installed correctly, very effective.

Though we don’t offer a design service, we can add extras as required such as fencing, trellis, pergolas, lawns, sleeper work, new garden beds and planting – see our Landscaping page for more info.

The Paving & Patio Do It Right Way

Stage 1
Get Your Rough Plan Together

Get Your Rough Plan Together – Decide what area of your property you want paved + Have a look at the sample pictures below and decide what kind of paving stone you like best? Think about whether or not you want edging, and if you require walls? (Don’t worry, you can change your mind – this is just the first step.)

Stage 2
Book Your Quote

Get in touch by phone, email, message or socials and arrange your quote.

We’ll call out, within 1 week of your call, at a time that works for you.

(Easiest Step!)

Stage 3
The Quote

Together we’ll go through your ideas with you and give you guidance on prices and what it will look like in reality. We will also make suggestions of alternative approaches if we think it beneficial. (But this is your project and ultimately you will know what you like best.)

Stage 4
Decision Time

When you’re happy with your choice of area, stone, edging and drainage we’ll send through a fixed price quote and a date when we can do the work. (Weather permitting of course – You know where we live after all!)

Stage 5
Installation Time

We come and do the work. It’s always a bit of a mess at first, but this soon turns from chaos into order. Drainage gets sorted, paving laid and grouted. Tidy up and wash down. (If there is anything at all you require as we go along, you just let us know.)

You Sit Back and Enjoy. (We smile too.)

Paving & Patio FAQ’s

This depends on a few factors. How much paving or patio work you require of course, but also how easy is it to access the area and whether there is a lot of soil, plants or stone to remove. That said, due to heaviness of the work and the cost of materials, most paving and patio work in Belfast, Lisburn and surrounding areas will cost from £2000 upwards. Whatever the cost we will provide a fixed price quote for your job that will set out clearly how we will fulfil your requirements.

We specialise in smaller scale paving & patio work – either installing a new section of paving or patio, or replacing an existing area of paving or patio. For this reason, a design is not necessary. We will consult with you on what you want then provide a video quote describing the work to be carried out. We also use intelligent software to show you what your paving or patio will look like when completed.

Finally, though we don’t offer a design service, we can add in other elements to your garden at the same time – see our landscaping page for examples and ideas.

This will depend on the size of the job, but most paving & patio work requires 3-4 days labour minimum. For large paving & patio jobs the time can be a week or more.

There is no best kind. All the paving stone we use is high quality from reputable manufacturers so is guaranteed to last. The best kind to use is the one you like best and which suits your budget.

That said there are two main types of paving – manufactured concrete paving and natural stone paving. Tobermore supply us with manufactured products and McMonagle with natural stone hewn from their own quarries. Which product you like best is really in the eye of the beholder.

Somewhere sunny, ideally! Of course, that’s a simplistic answer. Where you wish to install your patio is completely up to you. At the rear of your house is of course a popular choice, but really it’s best to decide on where you can see yourself spending the most time outdoors.

Yes. We carry out much of our paving and patio work in Belfast, Lisburn and surrounding areas over the winter months, when we are less busy with regular garden maintenance. This way we can move surprisingly quickly on your project. Also, if we can’t complete your work within the time you want it done, we will be straightforward and let you know.

As we always work with the weather and avoid working when temperatures are too cold or hot, any time of year is fine. That said, if you want your paving and patio work done quickly and at the best possible price, aim to book the work for over winter.

Clear leaves and debris as they fall and we recommend a yearly clean with a biocide such as used in our Long Action Soft Washing Treatment to keep your paving tip top. If it is already very dirty then a power wash or more intensive Instant Action Soft Washing Treatment may be required.

We specialise in simple, straightforward paving and patio’s and so we chose these suppliers based on both the quality of their products, their availability and the quality of their showrooms (virtual and real life!). Both Tobermore and McMonagle excel in these areas. Tobermore is a renowned supplier of concrete paving products and McMonagle for natural paving products.

They say drainage is a “Dark Art” – but we like to remove the mystery from it. If your paving and patio work is over a larger area we will always suggest breaking it up with drainage so that not too great a fall is required on your paving. Drains are always best fed into existing storm drains and if drainage isn’t required, we’ll let you know the reason why.
